Video pattern generation using ATtiny2313

For those looking to generate RGB patterns to suit European-spec TVs, projectors and composite-input monitors comes this handy little project from Dim based on the ATtiny2313 microcontroller. It can generate a range of colour patterns, lines and dots as well as a tone - great for checking the colour and stability (and audio) of a potential recycling target.

Furthermore Dim has published the schematic, EAGLE board files and code so you can manufacture your own versions. So to get started, visit his project page here. And for more news, updates and items of interest.please follow us on twitter, Facebook and Google+.

If you're looking for a quick way to generate composite video signals, it can be done very easily using an Arduino board and the TellyMate shield:

Controlling is very simple and accomplished by simple serial commands to the board. Not only for games, it can be used to create information displays that wouldn't look out of place at the airport or betting shop. With a little wiring it could be used by other development environments that have simlpe serial output. For more information on the TellyMate, visit the product page here.
