Overview
This breakout board from SparkFun is a carrier for the ISD1932, a multiple-message record/playback device. This single chip can record up to 64 seconds of voice messages. Microphone inputs and speaker outputs are all handled by the ISD1932. Since this board is a carrier for the ISD1932, careful reading of the datasheet (503k pdf) is recommended.
A switch is connected to allow selection between two of the ISD1932’s operating modes: address trigger or direct trigger. You need to cycle the power after flipping the mode switch to change the mode. The board’s LED will illuminate when the device is recording.
An external resistor is necessary to select the sampling frequency, which in turn determines the recording duration. The duration can range from 21.3 s with a sampling frequency of 12 kHz to 64 s with a sampling frequency of 4 kHz.
The board breaks out all pins of the ISD1932 to 0.1" spaced headers that work with our 0.1" male headers and allow the board to be used with standard breadboards and perfboards. The boards’s headers also work with our 0.1" female headers.
