If you want to do more with the BBC micro:bit, getting those pins from the card-edge connector is going to be your first hurdle. Unlike many dev-boards, the micro:bit isn't breadboard-friendly. That makes the 'bit durable and easy to manufacture but means you need a special connector.
This surface-mount edge connector is very slim and fully SMT, so it's a breeze to automate. It also only has contacts on one side, just like the 'bit, so you save money by only paying for the contacts you're going to use.
This connector version is a Sunken Right-Angle style, it makes the CLUE or micro:bit plug in so it's aligned with the PCB rather than above. We also dig this connector for the helpful embossed pinout.
We also have a Right-Angle style where your Clue or micro:bit will lay parallel and above to the PCB as well as a Straight style.
